Business is a Zero-Sum Game That Can Make You RICH!

| July 30, 2012

Executive Summary: The game of business is a zero-sum game. If you do not take mind-share and market-share from a direct competitor — they will take business away from you — and you will slowly die on the vine. However, if you PLAN to WIN and PLAY to WIN, you will WIN the hearts and minds of your customers… not to mention their money!

I am going to make this short, sweet and simple.

The game of business is a professional sport played with real money… real people… with your hopes and dreams at stake. There is real heartbreak if you lose… and real elation when you win.

PLAN to WIN and the battle is half over.

PLAY it well and you can WIN.

As long as a fierce competitor (direct or indirect) doesn’t beat you first.

Winning starts with the battle for mindshare — how your customer sees you and your  brand.

Do they TRUST you more than your competition?

Do they see the VALUE in dealing with you?

Do they perceive your core DIFFERENTIATION (how you are different/better) and how it benefits them?

Have you made it EASY for your customers to give YOU their hard earned money?

Big Questions that must be answered if you expect to WIN.

The “real” of it is that business is almost always a YOU versus THEM proposition — a zero-sum game where the winner takes from the loser and the loser tries to figure out what happened — so it doesn’t happen again.

Having built numerous businesses from scratch, usually with little or no initial capital and nothing more than a great idea, I can attest to the difficulties — AND REWARDS — of playing this game at a high level. I personally fought Bill Gates for 20 years in the market, and while I made a lot of money, he still has MY $20 billion dollars in HIS checking account!

me to play the game smarter and WIN big.” ~ Rita Long

There is a KEY to winning this game… and a simple one at that!

You must out-think… out-smart… out-perform… out-produce… and out-hustle your competition every step of the way. This means becoming measurably SMARTER about what you do… and how you do it.

Otherwise, that ruthless SOB down the street (read that, the man/woman who is smarter than you… more focused… has better ideas… innovates faster… engages in smarter hiring practices… markets their brand better… closes sales faster… and takes more money to the bottom line) will eat your lunch.

Worse, your carcass is the lunch upon which they will dine!

Higher, faster, smarter, stronger is not just a great motivational slogan for Olympic champions. It is your daily battle cry for WINNING the golden game of business.

When we created MyBizIQ.com, we created the ultimate Gold Standard measurement tool for small businesses. Actually, any business.

Knowledge is Power…

The economy is heading further south.

Competition for the scarce consumer/business dollar is heating up in every quarter.

If you do not have a serious competitive advantage, you will ultimately LOSE the game. (Over 70% of all businesses started 9 years ago failed to make it to their tenth anniversary.)

If you systematically hone your craft… innovate like crazy… build an unstoppable leadership team… market like Apple… sell like P&G… train your team to achieve your goals… and manage your money like Buffett… you can WIN — you can strike pure GOLD — making you not only RICH in spirit (what losers tell themselves when they fail) but have the WEALTH to go where you want… with whomever you want… in whatever style you want.

Power Gives You Options…

Having money is all about POWER… a very specific kind of power… the power to choose from a growing list of OPTIONS.

Winning the golden game of business not only means serving the customer well — better than your competition — but harvesting the CASH that comes your way.

Options Give You Choices…

Not just in the home you live in, the car you drive, the boats, the jet, the summer/winter places or the financial freedom you feel.

Wealth gives you the responsibility to not only make a small difference in the world, but the opportunity to make the world different.

Think about it.

I have found that it is easier to be rich than poor.

It also takes no more time to be rich than broke.

But it does mean doing thing noticeably SMARTER than your competition.

If you are at the top of the pecking order… or somewhere down the pike… the key is to not just MAINTAIN your competitive edge… but expand it to exploit your competition’s every weakness.

Do this, you WIN and they LOSE.

This is not grade school where you get a gold star just for participating.

Again, the game of business is a professional sport played with REAL money (your money)… REAL people… and REAL heartbreak if you lose.

So, Don’t Lose… WIN!

Go all in.

PLAN to WIN.

PLAY to WIN.
