Why More is Better than Enough

A Personal Story I Would Like to Share With You…

As many of you have heard by listening to our various TQ TeleSeminars, I did not grow up rich or poor. My mom was a nurse working 2 jobs, and my dad was a factory worker. Together, they brought in ENOUGH money to live a decent life, take a one week fishing vacation each summer, and generally scraped to get by.

Money was always tight. The 2 used cars — “beaters” really — were constantly breaking down, and I didn’t even know anyone who drove a shiny new car. We did not travel in the upper-middle class. We were relegated to what would now be called the “working poor” or maybe a little better.

From as far back as I can remember, the challenge was just getting ends to meet, to have ENOUGH to get by from day to day. It got much worse when the stork delivered my brother prematurely, weighing in at a 1 pound 14 oz at birth. What that meant to me was when they served spaghetti for dinner, it was very thin. Very!

ENOUGH really meant NOT ENOUGH to go around. Lots of sacrifices. Lots of fights over money. Lots of FEAR that something would happen to the car, something would breakdown (like the used refrigerator or washer — which it constantly did) or my brother would get real sick, and we would all be facing certain doom.

I was raised in a climate where SURVIVAL was all we could hope for. It was how my family coped, and my brother and I were raised.

After graduating high school, I was told that if I was going to make it through college — to be the first member of the family to get a sheepskin — I would have to learn how to tend sheep!

It was there at college that I learned that
ENOUGH was not nearly as good as MORE.

In my second semester, I met a man who would change the very essence of my future, a man who taught me about MORE. His name was Doctor William Jennings Bryan, a brilliant economist from Ohio State. No kidding, that was his “adopted” name. He was actually Egyptian and had a 44 syllable name that was totally unpronounceable, and because he so loved the famous jurist, changed his name to honor his great role model!

He was the first person I ever met who was a fearless optimist, a man of character, vision and a wonderful desire to serve. He became my friend and MENTOR. Probably in the top 5 people who shaped my life so richly, to become what it is, and who I am now.

He taught me to overcome my past and strive to win… to achieve… to succeed… to follow my dreams and visions and stop settling for ENOUGH. He forced me to follow the beat of a different drummer… to become my own person… fully comfortable with who I was, and my future-self.

He was the first man who convinced me that SURVIVAL thinking will permit you to survive, but will always hold you back from the opportunity to THRIVE…

  • To get MORE out of life…
  • To have MORE freedom…
  • To create MORE options and opportunities…
  • To make a lot MORE money from all your hard work.
  • To experience MORE joy, happiness and significantly MORE meaning in your life.

By the time I left graduate school my confidence was boundless, and I wanted MORE. My job options were limitless, and I wanted MORE. Because I was no longer focusing on SURVIVAL, I turned my Masters Thesis into a $150 million business… in 1969… when I was merely 24 years old.

Bottom line? I had overcome the greatest force in the world — a force so great that it keeps us in SURVIVAL mode and holds us back from MORE.

After leading the first Crash Course in Maximum Success, it became obvious to me that this course is exactly like finding a loving, caring, highly effective MENTOR that will lead you out of survival thinking to a whole new reality for your life.

The reason for SURVIVAL thinking is amazingly simple: Your brain is hardwired for survival… not success. See full scientific background…
