Life’s a Beach… Or a…

The Geography of Your Heart…

A few years ago, a minister going through Success On Purpose asked me a direct question, “Do you believe that there is anything more important than knowing your purpose in life?”

“Sure,” I said, “Not knowing their purpose in life may be one of the biggest tragedies people face. It is the cause of spending the only life you have on things that simply don’t matter. HOWEVER… knowing your purpose but not living it each day you are alive is actually a more important issue.”

“Why bother discovering the big WHY of your life, then do nothing to live up to your full potential? Makes no sense. In fact, this may even be a BIGGER tragedy in life: Knowing why you have been put here on Earth, but doing nothing important with the one life you have to live.”

No question, to live your life to the fullest requires you to KNOW your Natural Mission — connecting your visions and values with empowered roles — that will put your inner-drive into over-drive!

But there is something else you must consider, and it is a much bigger driver of success than you might imagine.

The big WHERE of your life!

It’s called the “geography of your heart.”

Where you feel you truly belong.

Speaking from experience, you will never be happy or even content if you are conflicted about your nature.

Why? Because you will always be thinking you belong somewhere else, not where you are right now.

Take some time this month to think, mediate, pray, or just plain work out your answer to this vital question…

Where do YOU belong?

Are you a mountain person?

A city person?

Beach person?

River person?

Desert person?

Ocean person?

Little lake guy?

Trout stream gal?

Horse property with lots of trees and a pond rumbling around in your heart?

Field and stream, hunt pheasants in Dakota kinda called?

A small “burb” on the edge of a big hub person?

A mountain valley person?

Where?

I am a mountain person — more explicitly, a looking back on the Great Divide from 20-30 miles away kind of man.

The majesty of the snow caps year round make me feel at home. I am here. I am where I belong.

I lived IN the mountains for about 6 months. Hated it. In fact, a mountain lion almost ate my dog kind of experience!

Sure, I love the ocean/beach life, but to visit — not to find the breath of life.

Jan and I love to spend a few weeks in Palm Springs — but we are not really desert people.

I found Jan because she found me in the mountains — while she was searching for herself.

Two mountain people who know EXACTLY where we belong.

With THAT settled, we can — and have  — built a life that matters.

We are not fighting nature… or each other… creating drama over our unhappiness with our surroundings.

Think about this for a bit.

How much of your life is built around fixing your surroundings?

Maybe you should take an hour or so today and do some Google Image Searches and try on a different location — at least in your imagination.

In reality, all reality starts in your imagination.

Spend a little time fueling your imagination today.

If you want to be truly happy, you will need to discover the Geography of Your Heart.
