Keeping Hope Alive

| January 23, 2013

“I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death.” ― Robert Fulghum, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten

A Leader’s Number One Job…

When you get right down to it, there is only one job for a leader.

To keep HOPE alive.

This is also the job of every mom and dad… every politician… every teacher… every minister… and yes, this is YOUR number one job.

Sometimes it is easy.

Things are going along great, so it is easy to see a rosy future. Hope is automatically created by the pursuit of  a vision that seems well within your grasp. All you must do is extend your reach.

Sometimes it is hard.

Things are going from bad to worse and you find yourself out on that proverbial limb. Hope fades as fear encroaches, and you start to lose faith in the beauty of your dreams. As faith diminishes… the dream starts to fade… and hope becomes hopelessness… leading you down the bleak path of helplessness.

We’ve all been there.

Not a place we want to return to.

Take some time today to think about what you will DO to keep HOPE ALIVE.

Make a list of the big benefits of what you are doing.

Refresh your goals.

Take 20 minutes to re-engage your dream machine.

Stop the downward spiral early — and cycle up sooner — BOOM… you are back on track FASTER.

If you feel you are starting to lose your VISION, go back and refresh it.

If you feel you are living at cross-purposes to your VALUES, go back and realign them.

If you feel you are in the wrong ROLE, create a new one.

A Life is a Terrible Thing to Waste…

When you find yourself losing hope, you simply must start filling in the missing colors in your paint by numbers dreams.

They say that someday your entire life will flash before your eyes.

Make it worth watching!
