Quick Hit: Intentional Excellence…
“For a long time, I was like most people thinking of excellence in abstract terms. It is one of those giant words that is hard to fully understand, let alone practice. Not until I made excellence my prevailing attitude did I find enduring success. I believe that if you give me the next 100 days —15 minutes at a time — you too will find the success you so richly deserve.” ~ E. R. Haas, CEO, Author, Serial Entrepreneur

Intentional Excellence…
Most people try hard but still come up far short of what’s possible for their lives.
They build a few skills that they hope will carry them for the long haul, and put their faith in the belief that they are doing as good as can be expected… given everything else going on in their lives.
Ruled by distractions and preoccupations, people find themselves constantly on the horns of a dilemma:
- If I try harder I might fail — the rewards of change are not worth the risks… so you take little action. Why try hard at something you are going to fail at anyway?
- I’m not capable of living out my dreams — I’m not smart enough… talented enough… good looking enough… have the resources… have the time… the list is endless.
Why?
Because they believe the lies our brain is telling us. (Yes, it is your brain that is actually holding you back from getting more of what you want out of life!)
The amazing truth is that our brains are not wired for success or happiness…
Our brains are hardwired for survival — to avoid risk… to keep us from being exposed to harm, even death.
The real problem is that our brains actually LIE to us — trying to protect us — sending us the wrong signals.
Unfortunately, until you rewire your brain for success you will not be able to experience the true JOY of living.
Excellence is not a throwaway buzz-word.
It is a way of life.
It is the recognition that everything matters.
It is the recognition that true joy comes from the intentional pursuit of excellence and the total rejection of mediocrity.
Over time we start to look at our lives as they are… sometimes positively… sometimes in regret.
We ask a simple question…
To men around 45-50, that question is, “Is this all there is? I’ve spent 20-30 years of my life getting what I got — it just doesn’t seem enough for all the ups and downs.”
“I thought I would be rich by now… I thought I would be living my dreams. What happened to all that time?”
To women 48-55, the question is completely different, “If not now, when? I’ve spent my life doing what others wanted from me, and now I want my turn.”
“I thought I would be truly happy by now… living what’s meaningful to me. What happened to all that time?”
Now is a good time to think about this.
In the next 100 days, you can reprogram your mindset from “just enough” to “WOW, now THAT’S what I have been wanting all along!”
