Commitment: The Power of Greatness Within
“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal — a commitment to excellence — that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” ~ Mario Andretti
Greatness in a time of crisis…
In this midst of this crisis, it might seem hopeless to reach higher and achieve more.
But, every winner has always faced heartbreaking challenges, and rather than slink into the background, they found the courage to meet the challenges and succeed.
Please take a moment to reread the above quote. It offers a truth for which there are no exceptions… you cannot WIN until you are totally COMMITTED.
I chose Mario Andretti’s quote for a simple reason.
Do you remember, or even care about the guy who came in second at the Indianapolis 500 in 1969?
No?
No one else does either!
Mario had lost 9 times, but that single win catapulted him and his family to not just a racing dynasty, but enduring wealth.
That WIN was the turning point that took him from loser to legend.
Commitment was the driver, Mario was just the guy holding the wheel.
We all know that to achieve extraordinary results we must be absolutely committed to both, the big WHY behind our actions as well as the expected RESULTS.
Commitment is one of those giant words we see as instrumental to the pursuit of both success and happiness.
It is the driver behind all that we do at TQ.
In TQ-speak, commitment is the 5th C in the 6 C’s of success as found in Success On Purpose:
Clarity of VALUES leads to clarity of VISION…
Clarity of VISION leads to clarity of ROLES…
Clarity of ROLES leads to the absolute CONVICTION that what you are about to do is the RIGHT thing to be doing…
Which leads to the unconditional COMMITMENT to doing whatever is required to achieve the vision…
Which leads to drawing the COURAGE to powerup the ROLE so as to achieve the VISION and live your VALUES.
These 6 C’s power all greatness…
Without clarity, you have nothing firm to strive for.
Without conviction, you will never believe that what you see should on can be achieved.
Without commitment, you will never take the actions necessary to even set a hard-target goal, let alone develop the plans to achieve it.
And without courage, your success is lost to the sands of time because you simply did not believe in the beauty of your dreams with ENOUGH strength to see them to fruition.
Committed Conviction is one of the most powerful forces in life!
Just so we are all on that proverbial same page, it is helpful to understand how the word Commitment is defined. If you look at the internet dictionaries, you will find exactly the same meanings. However, there was one anonymous entry that rose to the top that I thought was worthy of our respect:
Commitment is what
Transforms the promise into reality.
It is the words that speak
Boldly of your intentions.
And the actions which speak
Louder than words.
It is making the time
When there is none.
Coming through time
After time after time,
Year after year after year.
Commitment is the stuff
Character is made of;
The power to change
The face of things.
It is the daily triumph
Of integrity over skepticism.
Perfectly said! Perfectly defined…
Finally, here is a quote I know you have seen countless times. Maybe this will give you a deeper appreciation for what it takes to conquer the Mt. Everest’s in our lives:
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets: Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!” ―
Like all other performance issues, commitment is a choice.
You choose to be committed or you choose to simply give up and give in to circumstances and conditions.
Choose wisely!
