I always love to read this quote by Maya Angelou around the new year, as it sums up a hundred pages of thoughts in a single sentence, “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
Isn’t this what we all want?
A life filled with passion and purpose?
A life of compassion and hope?
To thrive with style?!
Of course it is!
Accept Thy Self: Heal Thy Self…
When you do, you earn the freedom to pursue your dreams to the full extent possible!
All of our hopes and dreams begin in our imagination.
What we call our Someday Dreams in Success On Purpose…
Someday I will go to Alaska…
Someday I will learn to play the piano…
Someday I will be married to a wonderful, warm and loving person…
Someday my family will enjoy the fruits of all my hopes and dreams.
Of course, the list is endless… because our imaginations are boundless.
When we created Success on Purpose the idea of Natural Mission and Authentic Direction in life was a big question mark.
We see the finding authenticity to be a connection issue.
Connection with your VALUES…
Connection with your VISION…
Connection with your ROLES…
If you live your values while pursuing your visions in all the various areas of your life, you have Authentic Direction.
If you live someone else’s vision… or someone else’s values… you will certainly have problems in finding Authentic Roles.
Leadership can be hard to define and it means different things to different people.
In the transformational leadership model, leaders set direction and help themselves and others to do the right thing to move forward.
To do this they create an inspiring vision, and then motivate and inspire others to reach that vision.
We all know that to achieve extraordinary results we must be absolutely committed to both, the big WHY behind our actions as well as the expected RESULTS.
Commitment is one of those giant words we see as instrumental to the pursuit of both success and happiness.
It is very much a “believing is seeing” issue.
In TQ-speak, commitment is the 5th C in the 6 C’s of success as found in Success On Purpose:
Clarity of VALUES leads to clarity of VISION…
Clarity of VISION leads to clarity of ROLES…
Clarity of ROLES leads to the absolute CONVICTION that what you are about to do is the RIGHT thing to be doing…
Which leads to the unconditional COMMITMENT to doing whatever is required to achieve the vision…
Last week we discussed the difference between hopes and wishes vs. crystal-clear EXPECTATIONS.
As I pointed out all week, what you have the RIGHT to expect is based on four Colors within your personal Time Prism:
Your sense of purpose and MISSION… your ATTITUDE… your ability to set Smart GOALS… and your ability to establish realistic PLANS to achieve your goals.
The Next Step Upward…
We all have mountains to climb, some tall, some scary.
The great news is that as we approach the summit of one, we see others off in the distance.
So, we set our sights upward, towards bigger, better and bolder goals.
If you want to make the ascent to the top of your career… the top financially… the top personally and professionally…
why not get a little help to make the climb easier and a great deal more enjoyable?
All you need to do is armor up, step up, and slay them.
Which, of course, is much easier said than done!
When we were crafting The Excellence Habit, it became obvious to us that there are powerful inward forces holding people back from high achievement.
Huge, scary, fire-breathing dragons that cause us to shrink from the fray, run and hide while we wait until the time is just right to pursue our goals.
Last week, we discussed how to become more Efficient and Effective by doing your 4 R’s more frequently:
Doing the Right Things… the Right Way… for the Right Reasons… all at the Right Time.
This week, we are going to tackle PROCRASTINATION—a word that causes most of us a tremendous amount of grief—and keeps us from consistently doing things at the Right Time… if at all.
Nothing will torpedo your chance at success faster than a poor attitude.
You can have clear and tangible goals, with the best-laid plans in the world, but if you poison the well from which opportunity springs, you’ve just killed your future.
This week, we will be getting VERY personal… asking the truly IMPORTANT questions:
Are you actually LIVING what you say you value, or are you consumed by the moment…
with no forward movement in the direction of your dreams?
The importance of knowing what you value more than something else is critical to your day-to-day performance.
Ultimately, the Excellence Habit is all about the inculcation of great ideas…
POSITIVE IDEAS that shape your performance.
To succeed, you MUST have a constant flow of great ideas… a reservoir to depend on for true innovation.
To motivate you to take bold action.
When we run out of ideas, we run out of hope.
A Life is a Terrible Thing To Waste…
It is also a wonderful thing to embrace!
Most people go through their lives with a deep case of Success Myopia… they have no vision beyond the obviousness of their lives.
They fail to see the ever-present opportunities, the signs pointing to a better life, and the big milestones in their lives.
Without vision you WILL perish. Your dreams die, your hopes fade, and you find yourself in a thorny field of deep regrets.
This morning we had a wonderful conversation about getting 2018 off to the best start possible.
My advice was simple.
Take out a sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle. Label the left half WHAT I DON’T WANT… and the right side WHAT I REALLY WANT…
Listen to the audio and follow along.
1 hour here and you will not only have better direction, but a real head start towards guaranteeing 2018 becomes YOUR year.
What Does Success Look Like to You?
Some people see lots of travel, long walks on the beaches or thrilling hikes in the mountains.
Others see a beautiful home, a garage full of cars, and the time to work on them.
Yet others see relationships as their measure of success. What have they given to the people they love the most?
Regardless of how you see it, you see it in your own mind’s eye. No one can tell you if what you want is right for you or not.
If you are still climbing the ladder to success, the question is, which rung are you on?
Are you still locked at worry and doubt… second-guessing your skills and capabilities? Have you moved up to excellence and mastery?
Are you now at the top where you have real freedom, and the means to do everything your heart desires? What most would call true wealth?
This week we are going to cover the importance of setting SMART Goals: Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Tangible. If you don’t have SMART Goals, you don’t really have goals… and living what you value most will remain elusively out of reach.
